Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 29, 2026
VoiceDOM is a Chrome extension that lets you attach voice notes to UI elements and hand them off to AI coding agents. This policy explains what data the extension touches, where it goes, and what we do — and do not — collect.
Summary
- Voice audio is sent directly from your browser to the transcription provider you choose (Groq, OpenAI, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, or another supported provider).
- API keys are stored locally in your browser profile only. We never receive or store them on our servers.
- Page URLs, selectors, and annotations are stored locally in your browser only, grouped by hostname.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for marketing purposes.
Who we are
VoiceDOM is operated as a browser extension product. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@voicedom.dev.
What data the extension handles
Voice recordings
When you record a voice note, audio is captured in your browser and sent to the transcription provider configured in your settings. On the free tier, the default provider is Groq. Pro unlocks additional providers including OpenAI, Deepgram, and ElevenLabs.
Audio is transmitted directly from your device to the provider's API using your own API key (or Groq on the free tier). VoiceDOM does not route audio through our servers. Each provider processes the audio according to its own privacy policy and terms of service.
API keys
Transcription provider API keys you enter in the extension settings are saved in Chrome's local storage within your browser profile. They are used only to authenticate requests from your browser to the provider you selected. We do not collect, transmit, or store your API keys on any VoiceDOM server.
Annotations and page context
When you pick a UI element, the extension saves context needed to identify that element later — including the page URL, CSS selector, tag name, optional React component name, and your transcribed note. These annotations are stored locally in your browser, grouped by hostname. You can review and delete them from the extension settings at any time.
Annotations are not uploaded to VoiceDOM servers. If you use the optional local MCP companion (Pro), annotations are read from your machine by tools running locally — not sent to us.
Microphone permission
The extension requests microphone access once through a background offscreen document so you are not prompted on every site. Audio is recorded only when you explicitly start a recording. We do not listen continuously or record in the background without your action.
Extension purchase (Pro)
If you purchase VoiceDOM Pro, payment and license validation are handled by ExtPay (ExtensionPay). We do not receive your payment card details. ExtPay may collect information necessary to process your purchase; refer to ExtensionPay for their privacy practices.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
- We do not share your voice recordings, annotations, API keys, or browsing context with third parties for advertising or analytics.
- We do not operate servers that store your annotations, page URLs, or API keys.
- We do not track you across websites for profiling purposes.
Third-party services
When you use transcription, your audio is processed by the provider you choose. Each provider is a separate company with its own data handling practices:
You control which provider receives your audio by selecting it in extension settings and supplying your own API key where required.
This website
This marketing site (voicedom.dev) is a static page. We do not use cookies, analytics trackers, or sign-in on this site. If that changes, we will update this policy.
Data retention and deletion
Annotations and API keys remain in your browser until you delete them through the extension settings or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling VoiceDOM removes locally stored extension data from your browser profile. Data already sent to a transcription provider is subject to that provider's retention policies.
Children
VoiceDOM is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the extension or our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
